YUMI YUMI YUMI

You, me, Yumi.

Not much in the way of Yumi news today I'm afraid, but that's not bad.

My one minute film "The Record" is in competition at the Vancouver International Film Festival trade forum on Thursday (along with my friend Rob's). Good luck to us! Somebody is going to win $2500 worth of Kodak Film...

Teambuilding...that's the next thing on the menu (it's been on the menu for a while but I'm getting serious...today!)

To all the wonderful cast and crew folks who have sent their info, thanks! If you're reading this, rest assured a call is coming!

Especially if you've indicated interest in the production end.

Applying to Grad School (for right after Yumi is finished) is on my to do list.

So much to do.

Need to get to the movie theatre and see something this week, please!

Don't want to count the days until Yumi Falls in Love right now...it's getting close!

VIFF is coming soon. How to pick which films to see? I could check off 150. Who has that kind of time? I need to manufacture some time to check out some movies.

How can I not see Dear Wendy or Maderlay? The answer is I must see both, of course.

Hope everything is going well for any and all folks who have indicated (or are planning on indicating) interest in our little movie.

MILAN KUNDERA Reading "Laughable Loves" for a Slavic Lit Class. Fantastic. Broken Flowers owes very much to Kundera.

PROJECTS (OTHER THAN YUMI) FOR THIS YEAR:
Slavic studies, a full length stageplay, a spec script for a television show, a short film project, and my first NOVEL.

Thankfully the Script for YUMI IN LOVE is finished!

Still working on finding producers and perhaps some funding...the headshots and resumes continue to trickle in. THANK YOU!

CASTING is next! I can't wait to have some readings. And...the party. We need a party planner ASAP!

ON THE OCCASION OF REMEMBERING "WATCHING" THE TURNING GATE

Hong Sang-Soo's film ON THE OCCASION OF REMEMBERING THE TURNING GATE is an amazing cinematic trip.

I cannot believe that I forgot to mention this on the blog! I watched this film a few days ago on my computer. I really need to purchase a nice proper legit version and watch it all over again.

TURNING GATE is deceptively light and surface, but the economy is brilliant. No word or visual is wasted, nothing is superfluous, except perhaps a bit of the music...something less dramatic might have worked better, but this is the most minor of complaints (and what do I know about the gravity of Korean music).

YUMI IN LOVE

We're getting closer and closer. If you (who are reading this) know of any well-established Canadian (or international) actors, please let them know about YUMI.

YUMI LOVES YOU

292 days until YUMI FALLS IN LOVE

Although it is completely within the realm of possibility that Yummi might fall in love as well, I have no idea who Yummi is. This picture is about Yumi, sounds like Yoomi.

RECENT VIEWING:

3 IRON

My very good friend Rob introduced me to Korean Cinema a few years ago. I can't even remember his review of Kim Ki-Duk's 3 Iron, but I'm pretty sure he liked it. I thought it was very good. The "magic realism" elements remind me of Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring, but the violent stuff is rather "Oldboy" (Park Chan-Wook). Although not as captivating as Samaritan Girl, 3 Iron has its moments, particularily the first half of the film when you're uncertain as to where things are headed. Beautiful shots, spare dialogue, and beautiful people. 3 Iron might be a bit too clever for its own good at moments, and too many people own 3 Irons in this film, but minor complaints aside, a very good film by a very great director.

SIN CITY: Fantastic.

FREE RADICALS: Dark stuff, reminds me of Dog Days. Like the free radicals in the atom, the characters seek connection but find themselves alone and loathing. Austria. A joyless world, but a strangely uplifting film...

THE ARISTOCRATS: well crafted doc. Sarah Silverman is priceless. I laughed and loved the inner circle world presented, however, Kelly and I left the theatre feeling a bit creepy for whatever reason. Gilbert and Saget...good stuff.
