Final received my computer from Apple, but the woman at Simply Computing sold me the wrong RAM...now, I'm stuck until Tuesday (Monday is B.C. Day).

Editing the short film for my Shakespeare class (great class great instructor). SO MUCH footage to wade through...need more RAM!

Looking forward to getting down to work on the YUMI IN LOVE PARTY!

If you are reading this and you haven't sent in a headshot or a resume, PLEASE DO IT NOW!

I'm going to start wading through them soon.

Sent a few copies of the script out to a handful of "well-known" actors and their agents...perhaps the addition of one of these very talented people would go a long way towards our goal of shooting on film? Who knows.

Can't wait to make a movie.

This is quite possibly the coolest thing.

334 days until Yumi falls in Love...

Finished watching "That Obscure Object of Desire." Wow...Bunuel...two actresses in the lead role. AMAZING. How did it take me this long to see this film.

PHOTO:Carole Bouquet and Angela Morino starred in 'That Obscure Object of Desire' directed by Luis Buñuel. NYC 11/16/77

Obviously a huge influence on Pascal Bruckner's novel Bitter Moon (Check out Polanski's brilliant film adaptation).

Planning to add a few notes regarding "Floating" budgets...different tiers of potential "Yumi" filmmaking...to the "Investment Opportunity" section of the website.

Stay tuned...

Thanks for sending in the headshots and the resumes!

PLEASE keep them coming!

As soon as my summer semester classes finish on August 3rd,I'll sit down and organize a list of roles and key crew positions, etc...perhaps I'll even have some help on the production end by that time...

Ordered postcards today!

Apple sent me a used computer instead of the nice new one I paid for...the YUMI computer.

Sent the "used" computer back to Apple, of course.

New one should be here soon, hope it doesn't push the "Script Trailer" back too far...maybe Aug. 15th...

Thanks so much for all the headshots and resumes!

All of the responses leads me to believe that there are a lot of "like-minded" folks out there, just waiting for the opportunity to help create a really great film.

THE SCRIPT

YUMI IN LOVE has a much more European/Russian/Asian feel than Hollywood, this is not to say that I don't write or enjoy watching Hollywood films, because I DO! Some of my favourite films have been made in the Hollywood studio system, Noir films in particular, but there are so many others...RKO made Kane! Additionally, some of my own film scripts might be nudged into the studio system and do very well. There's one about werewolves and a western!

With YUMI IN LOVE, my intention was to trap myself. To write "my kind of film". To write the kind of picture that I knew I wouldn't be able to avoid directing/making.

Great. So now I'm trapped.

And I would rather not be trapped here all alone...

Sent out a few emails and postings regarding the film.

Looking forward to going home and seeing all of the headshots and crew folks resumes!

BEFORE SUNSET is such a fantastic film...best of 2004?
Probably.

I can't think of a better film last year...maybe Kar-Wai's 2046? Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind...no, I think
Before Sunset is probably the one.

This year...who knows...

Back to YUMI IN LOVE.

Casting early would be great...I can't imagine having months to rehearse.

What I desperately wish for, however, is a DOP with his own 16mm camera (or HD camera), who just LOVES the script and gets it...Christopher Doyle style...

That would be the thing.

Just thinking of those three important things...location, location, location.

Where to shoot Yumi in Love?

The mainland, the Island, Abbotsford? All three?

If anyone can think of anyplace, anything, I'm open to hearing all about it.

Location touchstones might include: FIVE EASY PIECES, PIERROT LE FOU, 3 WOMEN, and many more I'm sure...

I suppose I should send out the address:

That way someone might actually read this.

Here goes...

YUMI IN LOVE

http://www.ashleypark.net

Here we go...

Fiirst draft of YUMI IN LOVE finished July 1, 2005
First day of principal photography will be July 1, 2006

One year to make a film that takes place on one night and I want to shoot on super 16mm film.

I have written and directed two short films, written six feature length screenplays, but YUMI IN LOVE will be my first feature film as a Director. This is the thing that I've always wanted to do.

Now I have to assemble a group of highly talented individuals and explain to them why they should donate their time and energy to making this picture a reality. Since so many of these talented folk will have their own film projects in the works, I'll have to bring something pretty spectacular to the table. Luckily I have this fantastic script...

We will officially launch the website sometime this summer with print advertising, and all the parties and fundraising hoopla we can muster.

In the meantime, stay tuned, and I'll try to keep this thing updated. Come back to check in on each and every step of the INDEPENDENT filmmaking process.

STEP ONE (fundraising)
-The script is finished.
-How much does is this thing going to cost?
-Find a producer (Telefilm Canada and International co-production experience an asset).

TODAY'S TOP TEN

1. The Cranes are Flying / Mikheil Kalatozishvili (perfect)
2. The Return / Andrei Zvyagintsev (even with child actors, this is a stark and brilliant film)

4. Monsieur Ibrahim / François Dupeyron (Shots of the sky alone indicate that they are crossing Europe)
5. Closer / Patrick Marber & Mike Nichols $9.99 at Rogers Video! Love the play, love the film.
