THE BLACK DAHLIA

Wow. A cross between the Soap Opera "The Bold & the Beautiful" and that old Television show, "Perfect Strangers," but the "feeling" I had, through this entire mess, was that I was watching the last scene from "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" for two complete hours. The Black Dahlia is a train wreck, unintentionally funny almost all the time, confusing at least half the time, and simply unbelievable in the end. But, as they say, the cinematography was fantastic.

I'm working on section 39 of 51...getting there (post sound first pass).

Getting closer to being cast for the pilot (going to start workshop readings in the first week of January).

Just finished the first draft of this brand new feature film.

The script is ready, three characters, one location...I just need a cast...one name actor wouldn't hurt as far as the budget is concerned here...

I'm re-edting a short film that involved some of the characters from Yumi, different actors, it's strange and a nice change of pace.

I'm terrified to look at the film festival deadline schedule...I'm sure something big is coming up.

Doing the sound has introduced me to some interesting editing items...disappearing coffee cups, boom in the shot (twice), all kinds of fun.

THE PASSENGER PART DEUX

New day. New rating. That's how these things happen.

If you haven't seen The Passenger (or if you haven't seen it since 1975), you should probably see it again.

This is filmmaking. This is film writing. This is film acting. This is cinematography extraordinaire...the last shot, the "event" of the last scene takes place during this LONG dolly push...through the room and out into the street, the "event" plays out ONLY in audio and very quiet audio at that. The sounds of the street almost completely mask what happens. An amazing ending almost always comes as the result of a well imagined well structured film. This is all of that and more. It's also Ghostly, Dreamlike and Beautiful, like almost nothing else. Jack Nicholson is at his best. Maria Schneider. Wow.
