SHORT - Do You Mind if I tell you a Story?

Sent the short film to the Toronto International Film Festival, but it was nowhere near finished. I've since laid in the ADR that Juan and Kristine provided so perfectly (still, hours of splicing are always required to make lips match words when actors give you such naturalistic performances). I've also colour-corrected and worked on some other sound/music stuff. Hopefully Mona will be able to filter out some of the hum or the universe that found it's way onto the audio, and add a bit of sonic magic to the film.

The Preview party is happening this coming week sometime. I'll send out emails to all.

It's exciting!

ABC

Always be casting.

We're really lucky to have so many amazing actors taking part in Yumi, and so many who could just as easily have been taking part. You should all be stars, and if I have anything to say about it...you will be. Damnit. You will be.

We're planning our fundraising party for June, but we'll have a "table" reading or two before then.

WHAT'S UP?

Still editing the short in every spare moment. Not many spare moments over the last couple of days, but hopefully this week I'll get a bit more finished. I've dipped my toes into the hours of Adobe After Effects tutorials and colour timing lessons I've recently downloaded, but I'm going to need more time...

Thank goodness I'm down to one day a week at my regular day job. Nice. Time is the most important thing for making movies right now.

EDITING

We shot the short film "Do you mind if I tell you a story?" from 9:30 until 3:30 on Tuesday April 18th, 2006. That's six hours, and at least half of that time was spent wiring people for sound, driving to our second location, eating pizza, and charging batteries. Very good work by an outstanding cast and crew.

I've been editing ever since, but I took a break long enough to UPDATE the short film website, HERE. Click films and then choose the short film. Check out the "STORYBOOK" section.

Back to the mac...

WOW

How can it be that I've never seen THIS?

If you're like me and haven't seen this, you have to keep watching. It escalates in comedy value big time.

Make sure you start with "The Original"

THE CAST

Yumi in Love has been CAST. Check the website for an updated list. We're still waiting for individual actor's bios (if you're a Yumi actor reading this, please email Terry a brief bio).

Because the talent level was so incredibly high at auditions, we could have cast this film twice. Unlike Team Canada, who thought they had enough talent to ice two or three teams that could compete for the gold medal (turns out they couldn't even pull one together), we could "ice" two or three teams for Yumi that would bring home the gold. You were all that good.

Thanks to everyone who gave so much to us at auditions. We really hope to see you soon.

Love, Luck, and Lollipops,

Yumi

FUN WITH XENU (or getting to know Scientology)

Seventy-five million years ago, Xenu was the ruler of a Galactic Confederacy which consisted of 26 stars and 76 planets including Earth, which was then known as Teegeeack. Xenu was about to be deposed from power, so he devised a plot to eliminate the excess population from his dominions. With the assistance of "renegades", he defeated the populace and the "Loyal Officers", a force for good that was opposed to Xenu. Then, with the assistance of psychiatrists, he summoned billions of people to paralyse them with injections of alcohol and glycol, under the pretense that they were being called for "income tax inspections". The kidnapped populace was loaded into space planes for transport to the site of extermination, the planet of Teegeeack (Earth). The space planes were exact copies of Douglas DC-8s, "except the DC-8 had fans, propellers on it and the space plane didn't." When the space planes had reached Teegeeack/Earth, the paralysed people were unloaded and stacked around the bases of volcanoes across the planet. Hydrogen bombs were lowered into the volcanoes, and all were detonated simultaneously. Only a few people's physical bodies survived.

Ummm...WTF?

Xenu-phobia
A real nutshell
Clear things up

How come Scientology sounds so much like Dungeons & Dragons in Outer Space as written by a grade seven student with a C+ average? And yet, it sounds like so much damn fun!

BRIEF CONSUMER WARNING (VANCOUVER)

As indie filmmakers we need to save money. That's why I tried ATIC computers. They have low prices, but it is an evil scam. They try and talk you out of paying with your credit card (offer a cheaper deal) and then you're stuck with a broken laptop/hard drive/whatever and NO REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES on ANYTHING (They probably have a pile of broken junk that they sell you if you pay cash or debit, and the minute you pay, it's yours for life) and NO credit card protection. YIKES. STAY AWAY. OR USE YOUR CREDIT CARD so you can cancel the charges later.

And now back to our regular programming.

HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN?

You should probably check this out

But you have to listen to the whole song. Those are the rules. Someone sent me this years ago, but it's still so relevant today.

Heaven's just a funky moose.

Oh yes. That is correct.

REEL LIFE

Finally got around to creating a "director/editor/camera" demo reel. This felt like an important step towards getting some serious film work. It just took so long to round up and convert all that footage...these files can be found on the Ashley Park website as well.

Demo Reel Quicktime 6

Demo Reel Quicktime 7

Of course, you don't get the sweet resolution in those tiny downloads. DVD versions are available. If you're looking for someone to work on your film, please email and request your DVD copy today.
