YUMI WANTS YOU

http://www.ashleypark.net

Looking forward to seeing November, the film not the month.
Summer just doesn't last.
Couldn't get halfway through "Be Cool". It wasn't cool. I need to watch a good movie. I really wish Ozon's 5x2 had played longer than two weeks...

BRIEFLY BACK...

Back from Peachland for a few days.

YUMI TUESDAYS on hold...August 30th I will NOT be at Joe's on Commercial drive, instead, I will be leaving for Tofino that afternoon...however, as soon as I return (I'm only away for 3 nights), I will set up the YUMI meeting day. This I promise.

I've polished the script more than three times in the last couple of weeks and I'm planning on taping some readings very soon...probably just after the first party.

So perhaps I had better move up the date of Party number one...so many things to think and talk about. Planning. Producing. I wish I had a producer...

PEACHLAND

Out of town from Monday August 22 to Friday August 26th for a long-awaited visit with family.

YUMI TUESDAYS

Tuesday August 30th I'm planning to be at Joe's on Commercial Drive for the first of what I believe will be many Tuesday mornings spent considering Yumi with those who wish to come down and...consider Yumi while drinking Joe's coffee.

MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW!

RECENT VIEWING

THE WAYWARD CLOUD
http://imdb.com/title/tt0445760/
Amazing static camera, wow...fast forward the crazy music video sections. Virgin suicides meets Rocky Horror. Seriously. THE BEST (and most disturbing) ending you'll see in a film this year...or perhaps any year...
LOOK AT ME
http://imdb.com/title/tt0374583/
Funny and very Rohmer. Great.
BROKEN FLOWERS
http://imdb.com/title/tt0412019/
Already spoke about this one...all of the scattered story stuff still feels natural. "Jim just makes it real...A Lolita who at (at least 16) has NEVER even heard of Nabokov's nymphet seems unlikely, yet...it is possible, and JJ makes me believe it. Beautiful. Perfectly handled.
THE FIVE OBSTRUCTIONS
http://imdb.com/title/tt0354575/
Lars.
ME AND YOU AND EVERYONE WE KNOW
http://imdb.com/title/tt0415978/
Already told you about this gem.
STEWIE GRIFFIN THE UNTOLD STORY
http://imdb.com/title/tt0385690/
And you thought the Family Guy was funny when they couldn't swear...
THE RING II
http://imdb.com/title/tt0377109/
WTF. This kind of drek is the reason people are less willing to go out to the theatre to see a film. I liked both Ringu and the first Ring film, but this is
unwatchable.

BROKEN FLOWERS.

Dark (lighting wise), slow-moving in a great way, like plants waving in gentle currents along the ocean floor. The first half is stronger than the second, but a nice ending (that will inevitably feel abrupt for some). Nice fades, short chapters. This movie is Bill's movie and could not have been made (this way)with another actor. It is VERY GREAT. The music could have been better.

YUMI IN LOVE

Going to set up YUMI TUESDAYS i think. What are YUMI TUESDAY'S you might ask...okay...every Tuesday I'll pull into some coffee shop. I'm thinking Joe's on Commercial or the like (but it should remain the same each week), and anybody interested in things YUMI, or any topic, can come on down and chat. This will remove the formality of "meetings". YUMI is not a "let's take a meeting" production. YUMI is a "let's make a movie" production. We're DOERS not MEETERS...if that makes any sense. Of course, when required, I'll be available to meet with anyone who simply cannot make a YUMI TUESDAY.

Please keep the resumes, headshots, and emails coming!

I'll keep you posted.

Trying to fix the trailers on the website so all can view them.

So far, I believe the PREVIOUS FILMS trailers are cool on both Mac and PC (if you hold down the option key on certain Macs)...the Script Trailer is working on both my Mac and my PC, but most folks are having trouble getting it to run on their PCs.

Therefore...tonight I shall upload it as an Mpeg-4 file and hope for the best...

On an unrelated note, Broken Flowers has been out since yesterday and I still haven't seen it. Also, The Aristocrats is looking to be pretty damn funny.

Need to get to a movie.

Finished a light polish on the script. YUMI IN LOVE is going to be exactly the kind of film I want to see. Which makes sense I suppose...I looked through my DVD collection and wrote the film that I wanted to own but couldn't buy.

If I could buy YUMI IN LOVE I would. It would be a lot cheaper than making it!

But...it's up to us to bring it into existence.

Monday August 15th...hope to meet with a few pre-production/production folks who have responded to Yumi.

I'm helping Rob Leickner and Mona Mok make their short film DEPARTURES this week. Rob has written and is directing. We're shooting all day Tuesday and then Wed/Thurs nights. Shooting on the DVX100 again. Rob and Mona will be working on YUMI. Thanks!

DVX100 looks good projected. Went to see RAGNAROK (Jason from my short THOMAS & LESLIE stars). Very entertaining. Good Luck Clint!

I'm going on way too long. Check back for TRAILER updates on the website TONIGHT!

Just added the "Production Manifesto" to the site. Dig the hammer and the sickle on the camera.

The title font in the Manifesto is really cool, unless of course you don't have the font "Bailey" installed...if you don't have the font, the title looks like crap. The rest should be good.

The entire point of this "Production Manifesto" is only to provide more information...at this point, as Yumi in Love changes from a pile of pages into something we'll make into an amazing film, information is pretty much everything I have to offer.

Since we're all going to be working on deferral, I want to provide as much information as possible, even this stream of consciousness blog stuff. I'm sure I'll be guilty of providing way too much information before this thing is finished.

Okay. Fixed the music. PERFECT.

BOTH trailers work perfectly on my Mac. The smaller trailer works great on my PC, but the larger trailer "stutters" on my machine. I have the feeling that my PC is rather outdated.

Apple's rather shitty customer service aside, they do make great computers.

JUST WATCHED/WATCHING: Sex and Lucia (3rd time...still great)
In the realms of the unreal (crazy)

Just finished the SCRIPT TRAILER and loaded it up on the site.

http://www.ashleypark.net (click films, of course)

I am having some issues with format, however. My Mac can open one of the files (the big one) and my PC can open both files but only (properly) play the smaller.

Also, the Liz Phair song (the second song after the Gorky's track) is far too dark and moody for this film. This is NOT a film that feels like that. Whoops.

I'll have to fix that right away. In fact, I'm going to try and do that right now.

321 days until Yumi falls in love and I'm tired.

Working on the script trailer.

Monday I'm going to begin the process of wading through the piles of resumes in my inbox. It is time to find a like-minded, spirited Producer.

We have a party to plan, some money to raise, and we need a camera, grip equipment, and some things. Wonderful things.

Saw YOU AND ME AND EVERYONE WE KNOW last night.

It was very very good, but the trailer for BROKEN FLOWERS was...well, let's just say I can't wait to see this movie.

Miranda July's film is beautiful and childlike, and filled with gorgeous little moments, unrealistic, yet there is so much that is true in there.

The only complaint (minor), aside from a little bit too much performance art, is the mix of amazing shots beautifully composed and lit, and poorly lit/badly composed shots (especially of our shoe salesman's home). I found myself bumped out of the film on occasion (very rarely) because of this, but this is a very minor complaint, I mean, the good stuff overshadows everything that is a bit too precious, and the "bad" shots are only "bad" when viewed next to the brilliant shots, the film won the Camera d'Or after all.

Script trailer coming soon.
First production meeting coming soon.
Broken Flowers coming soon (Aug 12).
I may also upload some of my music videos. Why not.
